The workshop conceptually develops on the Italian word “manomettere,” which very often has a negative meaning, but if we divide it into its two components “mano-mettere,” the same word gets curious, amusing and experimental meaning. Very much related to the active part of the Project process, “putting a hand” on something means taking care of it, taking care of it.

The workshop addresses a strong theme in sustainable fashion, that of upcycling, the transformation of garments that have fallen into disuse, those that create flaws, but that one tries to turn into something new and unique.

“HAND-MITTING ” offers a cognitive journey of manual mending made with felt.

How many times in our wardrobes have we happened to have sweaters or knitted accessories worn out by time and wear, for which, however, we feel affection and do not want to get rid of them?

Denise Bonapace's workshop will be activated by working on knitted garments that are pierced or damaged in texture, to go about recreating the texture but not only that.

Being able to enhance and personalize a garment is not about hiding or closing the hole, but also going to highlight it and make it a strength.

The purpose of the workshop is to educate to a new awareness in the relationship between ourselves and the things around us, experimenting and understanding how it is not necessary to throw away holey sweaters, but how it is possible instead to be able to redesign and personalize them to the best of our ability, through the use of manual techniques, producing not only a “new” artifact, but creating a conscious chain of Value.
