Have you ever wondered what distinguishes a knitted garment from others? How it is transformed a thread in a garment that tells a story and hugs the body in a unique way?
During the workshop, taught by Lecturers Michele Fumagalli and Alice Molteni, will be explored the fascinating boundary between lowered knitwear and traditional tailoring: two seemingly close worlds that meet in the creation of garments, but with profoundly different philosophies, techniques and approaches.
“Slipped” knitting is not an alternative to tailoring but offers a completely different language: if we usually think in terms of cutting and sewing, with knitting you create the very material of the garment, building it up stitch by stitch point. The workshop will help to understand how this “backwards” approach” enable the conception of shapes and volumes that are impossible to achieve with other techniques.
Not Finally, a discussion with the world of modeling will be missing, to explore Further differences between design methodologies.
