In the world capital of consumerism and the entertainment society, a group of young intellectuals revolutionizes the history of customs, art, literature, and music. The case of New York and the Beat Generation still helps us today to understand the relationship between dominant cultures and freedom of expression, massification of consumption and cultural production.
The lecture, through readings, listening to music and viewing works of art as well as historical, photographic and video material, will recount characters such as Jack Kerouac, Jackson Pollock, Allen Ginsberg, William Burroughs but also Bob Dylan, Robert Frank and Fernanda Pivano in search of the utopia at the origin of the Beat generation.
