Being involved in this new edition of Fashion Graduate Italia is for our students an honour as well as a satisfaction. An opportunity to showcase their projects in a new and renowned showcase for emerging designers. The creations on the catwalk took up the theme of the academy’s annual fashion show, and this year the theme was to capture and translate into fashion creations the essence of Fellini’s cinema: the decadent elegance, the circus atmosphere, the contrasts between reality and imagination. Federico Fellini, is one of the greatest directors of the last century whose artistic direction is also marked by the choice of clothes in his films, seen as a characterising element in the representation of a character and his story. So the aim for the young designers of Accademia Del Lusso was to reinterpret Fellini’s imagery in a contemporary key, through ready-to-wear and Haute Couture collections.
The Accademia del Lusso collections showcased at Fashion Graduate 2024 pick up on the theme of the last academic Fashion Show, entitled ONIRICON, inspired by the dreamlike atmospheres and surreal visions of the genius of Federico Fellini, master of Italian cinema.
For the occasion, Accademia del Lusso launched a contest at the beginning of the academic year, involving all Fashion Design students to select and award the best works to be worn on the catwalk. The central theme was the reinterpretation of the style of the costumes that marked Fellini’s filmography, with the aim of creating garments capable of conveying the essence of Fellini’s cinema: the decadent elegance, the circus atmosphere, and the contrasts between reality and imagination.
After an in-depth analysis of the filmography proposed and a careful study of the director’s main characteristics, the students presented ready-to-wear and Haute Couture collections, divided into three macro categories, inspired by the filmography analysed:
MINIMAL CHIC
Films: 8 ½, La dolce vita

LEONARDO MARCHETTI
Fellini’s characters, especially in La Dolce Vita, seem perfect but actually are full of vices and flaws. It is precisely this contrast that I wanted to synthesise in my collection: clean and essential silhouettes, but enriched with details and contrasting colours.
FUNKY TOWN
Films: La strada, Variety Lights

NICOLÒ ZEDDA
The inspiration for my clothes comes from the famous film La Strada by Federico Fellini. I decided to start from the concept of ‘wandering’, understood as wandering aimlessly, as happens to the two protagonists. From this starting point, I focused my attention on fabrics and the spatial concept they could occupy. I looked for unusual shapes, imperfection, and details that could evoke street life on the one hand, and a philosophy of soft colours on the other.
ONIRICO
Films: Juliet of the Spirits, Satyricon

LACHYN BEGLIYEVA
For me, the source of inspiration was the style of the author himself, the way he conveys thoughts, ideas and dramas through his films. The idea of my collection is to show the simplicity of forms in clothing, like the everyday life depicted in his works, but with a focus on details, such as people’s physical or psychological problems. The red slits on the trousers, the embroidered eyes and the handmade motifs are symbols of a society that remains mute and silent in the face of the psychological problems that lurk within, to which I have decided to give voice.
These unique collections, sponsored by various stakeholders in the supply chain- from fabrics to artisanal craftsmanship – are characterized by common keywords: research, heritage, innovation, sustainability, and tradition.
