UEDA College of Fashion

UEDA College of Fashion

This College was founded in 1941 with history and tradition. Located in the trendy Osaka suburb of Umeda, the college has guided more than 30,000 students towards their careers in fashion. The origin of this college is Haute Couture, which founder Yasuko Ueda learned under Christian Dior in France during the early days of fashion. She was the first person to introduce France’s Haute Couture techniques to Japan, and her important contribution to the Japanese fashion industry. Inheriting Yasuko Ueda’s thoughts and passion for fashion, we aim to develop world-class human resources by implementing unique overseas programs that go beyond mere international exchanges, both domestically and internationally. Through learning state-of-the-art techniques and sophisticated artistry students can choose to focus on mode fashion, Haute Couture, stage costumes, sports and knitwear, gothic and lolita, business in fashion and more.

Capsule collection title: It Gets Better

Concept collection: This collection draws inspiration from the “It Gets Better” video channel and focuses on the concept of gender fluidity. It reflects our Japanese cultural tendency towards self-concealment and the internal conflict of suppressing one’s inherent beauty and strength. The original prints used in this collection symbolize a genderless identity, offering a visual narrative that I hope resonates deeply with viewers. My goal is for this collection to foster a sense of connection and understanding, empowering people who interact with it to see their own experiences reflected in the designs. Ultimately, I seek this work to contribute meaningfully to ongoing conversations around gender issues, making lives a little “Better” and more inclusive. As a designer, I make sure that each piece I create carries a purpose and a message, and this collection is no exception. This collection represents our Japanese cultural tendency towards self-concealment and the internal conflict of suppressing one’s inherent beauty and strength, focusing on genderless identity.
