2 special looks dedicated to 4 pop culture role models designed with the collage technique on paper, in only 1 hour of lab!
Timing: 1 hour
- 20-minute introduction and explanation of the exercise
- 40-minute workshop with active teacher support and additional examples/ideas/feedbacks
Outcome: 2 papers for each student starting from basics and materials provided by IED and suggestions for practical work.
Exercise: Starting with a basic A3 printed pattern, design silhouettes directly on the pattern, using materials of your choice, as if it were a mannequin, with techniques close to draping, understanding the volumes, folds and shapes of the product you want to make. Once you have a satisfactory shape use tracing paper to draw a clearer picture of the elaborate garment. Work on the pattern using also pieces taken from various runway photos, whole garments or just details, joining them together and/a paper shapes of the student's taste and invention to achieve a unique and new look.
The exercise aims to produce results that straddle the line between Fashion Designer and Fashion Stylist.
The figurines that will be provided will have the features of pop culture characters:
- Timothée Chalamet - Film Festival
- Rupaul - Season Finale
- Zendaya - Paris Fashion Week
- Billie Eilish - Music Awards
The task is to create commissioned looks for the chosen person and for a specific special occasion; the intent is to achieve an ad hoc design for the client, keeping in mind the style and physicality of the muse in question.
The final papers will have a narrative to hold them together, and if the project turns out to be satisfactory we will invite students to post their papers on social media using the various TAGs.
